Thank you for this recipe. Herbal Academy gave me the link. I note no date on this post, but January 7 2025, the fires in SoCa were devastating. My daughter, her son and their 2 cats barely survived the Palisades Fire.
I wish I had had these recipes to send to her a month ago, but I’ll get them made and send to her now. Her apartment was left standing, but everything is coated with soot and is beyond hope to salvage. She goes every few days to salvage what she can that can be washed in the dishwasher several times or laundered several times. She says that the dishwasher and washer smell up the house, so these will still be beneficial for her.
Thank you again, for writing this post and sharing with others that have gone through and maybe will go through devastating fires again.
My other daughter in south western Oregon also has fires close to her, so I‘ll also be sending her these recipes. They host the firefighters in the area all during fire season, so it may also come in handy for them.

You have to drink a lot of coconut water for it to have major diuretic effects. When coco water acts as a diuretic is because of the increase in minerals in your body- which is actually a good thing.

Be absolutely sure of your plant identification before using it. Find someone locally who can help you.

Kami - thanks for the intriguing info on the mallow & the fire smoke recipe! (It's burning season here in the Midlands of KZN, South Africa so we'll give the tea a go. (Hopefully our mallow is the same and not some poisonous thing that looks similar.) :)

It can replace your usual water and be consumed all in one day. Teas are only good for 24-28 hours due to the water content.

I am writing to you from Chiangmai Highlands in Thailand where we have bad forest fires every year during the dry season (Feb - April).
To support the firefighters and ourselves, we make a cooling EYE SPA Hydrosol Lotion with Thai herbs which we steam distillate : including Aloe Vera, Passion Fruit, Triphalla etc.
We also spray our face and body with Aloe Vera + Bamboo Leaf hydrosol and we add it to our drinks which include fresh coconut juice...
In other words, we treat the outside and the inside of our bodies.
Lastly, we made our own washable facemasks with 3 layers (including a PM 2.5 filter) which still allow you to breathe comfortably.
We make an Immunity Oil formula with antiviral and anti-fungus essential oils and add one drop inside the facemask for comfort and wellbeing.
We make spagyric tinctures to support the Lungs as well.
Hanging from the roof, around the house, we have installed small foggers (3 USD each) which we use 2 to 3x per day to settle the dust particles and breather easier. They consume very little water.
These actions make the burning months so much more bearable.
