Hi..I make a tumeric drink with coconut water, grated fresh tumeric and grated ginger. I could not do the pills either. There are not exact measures but I do one knob of tumeric like a inch or so and lots of ginger

Hi, Kami
I first learned about turmeric from my Indian friends. They are using it as spice in many dishes. They told me about its beneficial properties for health. It removes inflammation from joints. Since then I use this orange powder when cooking long-grain basmati rice. It gives golden colour and aroma. The curry powder you mentioned above is actually the blend of several spices including turmeric. It is also almost a staple in kitchen. The other Indian spice has the name masala and is used in many dishes with this name: chicken masala, garam masala, fish masala and so on.

I came across tumeric in 2013 while researching anti-inflammatory alternatives to glucosamine. We adopted a 12 y.o. dog whose hind end kept giving out on him, put him on glucosamine tabs and quickly discovered he had a severe fish allergy. I started adding it (as well as cinnamon for blood sugar regulation and a pinch of ginger for digestion) to the homemade foods I made and within six months zeek was jumping up and down like the rest of the dogs at meal time. Our vet was amazed and while we thought he was a hospice dog we had him until last year- at the age of 18! I recently stopped adding it because my youngest dog has a sensitive belly but my 14y.o. started having severe joint pain, even after a course of prescription meds. I started sprinkling it onto her food separately about a month ago and sure enough she's dancing around and playing like a pup again. I have heard about pepper making it more effective but have not used it in the dog food.

Great article with new (to me) info! I recently planted a root of turmeric and two of ginger in a big pot outside (so it can come inside when it gets cold.) The article I read said they would sprout in a few days, but it took mine several weeks to finally sprout. They look healthy though, and now I'm looking forward to harvesting my own fresh roots next year!

Thanks to other commenters for bringing up additional new information as well!

Yes, you can put turmeric in your milky tea, (golden milk) and also adding it to your meals. I also put it in honey or ghee and take it that way

I have metastatic breast cancer and need to take turmeric but it is causing stomach pains in capsule form. I have tried to take it without the pepper in it, to no avail. Do you have any suggestions to take it a different way? Perhaps Golden Milk?

Mike, this is such an awesome, inspiring story! Thank you for sharing it. Adding spices to our food every day, really does add up. Congratulations on finding what works for you!
