Since cayenne and yarrow are antimicrobial, it is not necessary to clean the wound immediately, however, i always recommend cleaning healing wounds regularly. You can definitely reapply to get the healing benefits of the herb.

I loved reading this article and all of the comments. It's so amazing to learn this priceless information. I'm curious, whether using powdered cayenne or yarrow, how long do you leave the herb in the wound? Do you pack the powder into the wound once and leave it indefinitely? Or periodically clean and reapply? Or only use one to stop the bleeding? I've seen several people mention how the cayenne speeds up healing and often times will heal deep wounds without the need for stitches; that makes me think that the powder is left in the wound for several days, but Id like to know for sure!

I had this little growth like a wart on the tip of my nose, last night i accidentally ripped it off with my fingernails, instantly it started dripping constant big blood drops i lept off my bed to avoid making a mess and went straight for the cayenne pepper i poured a spoonful into my palm and dipped the tip of my nose into it, instant results, blood stopped instantly, unfortunatly i did breath a little in and suffered those consequences, but all round great result.

Cayenne might not be the best if there is a chance the dog will lick the area.

I had a dog break his nail. This was over 20 years ago and I didn't know what I know now. I did a quick internet search and of the remedies I found that I had was cornstarch. I did have cayenne, but I must not have found that one. So I put a bunch of cornstarch in a paper towel and held that tightly around the dog's foot. It worked eventually but it didn't work like what people say about about the cayenne.

The best thing I can say is make sure you know how your dog will react to you while in pain. My dog trusted me completely even if I hurt him a little. I had to clip of the rest of the nail that was hanging. But most people tell me that this was a very abnormal experience and even the most trusted dog might bite you.

I cut the pad on the tip of my index finger clean off a few years ago. I rinsed it like you did your son’s finger, and decided that there was nothing left to stitch up because it was just a big divot that was really bleeding. I knew about cayenne and so I wrapped my finger in a paper towel to keep from bleeding all over while I found the cayenne. I poured it in a bowl that was handy and plunged my finger in. It stung for a couple seconds and then stopped hurting. The bleeding stopped as the pepper kinda clumped on it. It was surprising how fast it worked. We’ve also used it as bloodstop for dehorned cows for years, and on a neighbor’s horse that was cut really bad and had bled through several gauze pads and vet wrap by the time we got there. Every time it has worked quickly. Cayenne is a super star!

Oof! Also have yarrow in mind! Stops bleeding without the burn in the sensitive nose. So glad it didn't cause breathing problems!

I have read many times about cayenne but have not tried it myself. You and this comment thread has convinced me! I love to grow cayenne! I usually put them on the smoker, dehydrate and ground for yummy seasonings but this year I will reserve a bunch just to dry and ground for wound care.
Also I keep a jar of dried, ground yarrow, broad leaf plantain and kaolin clay and cinnemon. This works wonders as well especially when I'm trimming my dogs nails and Oops, quick them.
Thanks for this article and info.

Years ago my young son was prone to nosebleeds. So i decided to try some cayenne. I said I will do it with you. We put vaseline on q-tip and dipped it in the powder, rubbed around in our noses. Had ice cubes ready to rub on the outside. We survived the burn and it stopped the bleeding. Interesting he also stopped having nosebleeds. Dr said it cauterized it. I said healed.
