Amazing that you bring this up! Of course we've forgotten, it is high time to bring it back before it vanishes forever. Luckily, with us, in the Balkans area, especially Dalmatia & Montenegro we have treasured this knowledge for millennia. Not just women, but men and children take part in the renaissance of local herbalism. Traditional herbalism is back and here to stay. The dalmatian sage - queen of herbs, sweet wormwood, rosemary, immortelle, laurel/bay (just to name a few)...are largely in use again. The onion recipe that you mentioned is popular here too.

My grandmother used to give us a tea called estafiate whenever we complained of a stomach upset. She grew this plant just outside her kitchen and was readily available to her. It was bitter and unpleasant for our taste. I don't remember if it helped, but we hated the bitter taste, so we avoided saying that we had an upset stomach.
