Here’s a question that I got recently.
“Kami, I am interested in knowing how you keep all this information organized. I have notes everywhere, but I’m struggling going back to find them. “How do I stay organized? I have stuff everywhere.”
Actually, I get this question quite a bit.
Materia Medica is a Latin term for the body of collected knowledge about the therapeutic properties of any substance used for healing.
Watch this video and learn some of the ways I keep organized and how I use my Herbal Materia Medica sheet.
Download your copy of the exact Materia Medica sheet that I have used for years and follow along.
So if you are presented with an illness such as a cold. How would you organize by illness each herb that might help for a cold. Or a toothache?
Print out the materia medica sheet for each herb that you use, or would like to use, and simply organize by illness in a binder. Or having an index of actions, with each herb that has that action such as decongestant- rosemary, eucalyptus, etc. would be helpful. I love my Materia Medica binder!
TY! So much, this really helps.
Although, I’d like to scan your entire wonderful binder you have!

this is such a God send to me as I was lying in bed this morning and made a commitment to myself to work on “organizing” my herbal info over the next few days… an intentional way to start the New Year!… this is perfect “thymeing”. thank you Kami.
Yay!
I love the simplicity of this. Sometimes, things can seem so big and complicated that a person may be intimidated to get started. Thank you for sharing. Also, I live in Ireland so that was really cool to hear about your Irish heritage and that you include the gaelic language.
Thank you! I appreciate you sharing this info with us!!
Thank you so much, I been using a composition book that I have written in & with so many I realize I have duplicated more because I can’t remember which is which they all look the same. Even though I thought I would remember in a way. This way with your Materia Medica I can now put in & organized it & remember where I put it and not make duplicates.
I really appreciate this. Thanks so much for caring, and sharing.
so timely!!! I am in the process of cleaning up! Sorted and weeded out recipes for the kitchen, my herbs and how to recipes are next! The how to make everyday items already have a book, the herbs are still in free fall, so this is very helpful on how to organize them all and what to include with each.
while I sip my star-anise, fennel, comfrey and cistus tea blend 🙂
Thank you so much for clarifying how to use a materia medica! So very helpful:)
wonderful idea, thank you so much.
Thanks for sharing your process!! Great video!
Huge THANK YOU! 💖🧚♀️
I’m old school so I still love my notes, files, and books. However, I also love using Pinterest to organize all my recipes. You can create a board for each herb, add photos, notes, etc. It stays in the cloud so you can access it anywhere there’s the Internet. It’s very organized and visual and free. I have loved it for saving my vegetable recipes…giving each vegetable its own category or board. I think it’s a very good option and it lets you share…or not. Keep the great ideas coming!
Thank you!!! I’ve been very busy working on my garden set up. I’m planting medicinal herbs and endangered plants. This is awesome material and perfect timing 🤩🤩🤩
Thank you, Kami. This seems a lot more practical than the 3×5 and 4×6 cards I’ve tried to use in the past
Awesome, thank you! I have a casual notebook but it is not organized and I really like this so it can be easier to find things.
Thank you very much for this information, Kami. So many herbs have been given us gratis by Nature and it is only wisdom to learn how to use them. And those we buy…warming cold herbs like echinacea was an eye-opener for me, who’s always cold!!
Thank you….thank you….thank you!!! Your organization info is really helpful Kami. I’m really new at this herbal stuff and VERY OVERWHELMED at it all; so I’m very confused how and where to start. I have my notebook and your Herbal-Materia Medica Sheet, some bottles and a few herbs and your ‘Herbal Kitchen’ book; and now that winter is slowly making her way here….I’m going to make my 1st winter blues cures. Your info is very helpful and much needed.
This is great ! Thank you so much! Now I can have everything in one place and find it easily.
love it Kami – your approach is clear and crisp and very gentle – which as you know is so needed when there is this much information x
Very useful. Thanks
Using a Happy Planner or traveler’s notebook are also fun ways of keeping notes for a herbal materia medica.
I can’t explain how valuable this Materia Medica print out was for me. You’ve covered all bases with it. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
You are SO welcome!
Again Kami, thank you for your wonderful input and offerings!
Glad you are on board!
love you and the way you teach!
Thanks, Kami. Your presentation “fleshed out” how to use the printable page. I appreciate your generosity and teaching! Have a lovely evening.
Hi Mary,
You are welcome. Good, I thought the video would be helpful.
Also, I did another lesson on this on my Facebook live show, that I do every Thursday at 4pm Pacific Time. In that lesson, I show the 2 other notebooks that I use.
You can see it here: https://www.facebook.com/LivingAwarenessInstitute/videos/10155313070341109/
Mahalo dear Kami – another useful gem!
You are so welcome, so glad this is useful. The Herbal Materia Medica sheets have really been helpful over the years.
Thank you, Kami. I have papers, notebooks and scraps all over. Now I have a way to get them together and organize them. Now just to do it.
Yep, get a binder, put tabs in it so you can alphabetize your sheets and then they are easy to look up.
First make copies of the Herbal Materia Medica sheets
Put them in your binder
Start with 10 herbs and then slowly just start going through your pile and get it into your binder.
Thank you so much Kami. I needed this. I have volumes of notebooks and papers everywhere. Now I can get organized going forward.
I hear you, it made a big difference for me once i started to get organized…
Awesome, thanks!
You are welcome!
Awesome, thank you!
