Folks often ask me, “What’s the best teapot for herbal tea?” There are just so many options, from glass teapots to metal teapots and French press teapots. It can be daunting to know which teapot you should use for herbal tea!
So today, I’m going to show you what I use for making and drinking my herbal tea. You might be surprised…
What’s the Best Teapot for Herbal Tea?
I make my herbal teas in a good, old-fashioned pot or saucepan on the stove. Pretty simple!
However, after I make my tea in the saucepan, I put it in another pot so that I can drink my tea out of something I love. You want to find a teapot or something to drink out of that you think is beautiful or that has meaning to you or that you enjoy. I once read that people used to be buried with their tea paraphernalia — talk about loving your teapot!
I especially enjoy drinking out of my great-grandmother’s teapot, which was given to me by my aunt. It’s chipped and stained on the inside, but I love drinking out of it. This teapot was used in the 1800s and early 1900s. I just love thinking about my great-grandmother and her hands touching this. I wonder what they talked about when they drank tea, and what kind of tea she drank.
Do you have a beautiful teapot or mug that you love? Do you have something that when you drink out of it, you think, “Ooh”?
How You Feel While Drinking Tea
The thing is, how you feel while you are drinking tea is important. Your emotion actually goes into the water and the tea.
What you think, what you feel, and the beauty of what you drink from is part of the healing. Medicine takes many different forms and feeling beauty and joy from something as simple as the teacup or teapot that you drink from is also medicinal. It’s not just the medicine of the herbs that you’re getting.
You start honoring all levels of what goes into your tea drinking, from where the herbs are harvested to how the herb gets to you and how you make the tea.
When looking for the best teapot, you might consider materials like metal that stays warmer longer or glass where you can see the beautiful color of the tea. Maybe there’s a color or texture that you love. I recommend checking out the antique stores and thrift shops. It’s amazing what you can find.
Ultimately, you want a teapot that when you pick it up, you go, “Aah!” It should bring a sense of delight or interest or joy and that is part of the medicine.
So, what’s the best teapot for herbal tea? Well, the best teapot is the one that makes you happy when you hold and use it. The medicinal quality of your tea is powerful, but what you drink out of also really matters.

Kami, you are so precious. Thank you for your beautiful spirit and enthusiasm.
I only use a teapot when my grandchildren visit. They pick out the teapot and cups they want.
It is very special to them and brings me much joy!
Blessings to you.
Nobody in my family are hot tea drinkers, so there are no teapots. I will be the first to begin this teapot history. Love the different recipes for tea that you provide. Thanks Kami
I bought an Alice in Wonderland tea pot. The mad hatter tea party. I love it. I have a couple of different ones I use that are special to me. I enjoy drinking my tea from the cups.
When I drink from my grandmothers cup or my moms cup I wonder who they shared their time with. What conversations took place and problems solved or that sweet time with their friends.
I use my beautiful stainless steel Chantal tea kettle to heat water on the stove and pour into Mom’s china tea cup with an infuser ball to steel the tea leaves.
Hi, Kami. I’ve recently purchased your Herbal Infused Oils class and enjoy your down-home, around-the-kitchen-table approach. It’s like having a good friend who is always available to ‘talk herbs’ with. Thanks for that! My teapot is a clear glass one with an insert that keeps the herbs from swimming in the teacup. I got it from Mountain Rose Herbals, which is about a mile or so from my house here in Eugene. (Lucky me!) You’re right that it matters what you drink your tea out of: I have delicate teacups and saucers that are no longer “in” but when I… Read more »
