Herbal sprinkles are one of the simplest and most satisfying herbal kitchen staples that you can use to incorporate more herbs into your meals. We always have Digestive Support Sprinkle to put on toast, hot cereals, or to mix into yogurt.
The digestive support herbs are an incredible resource for daily health and well-being, as they help us to more efficiently digest the nutrients in our food.
This easy Digestive Support Sprinkle recipe comes from my book, The Herbal Kitchen. Let’s take a closer look at what it contains…
Flax Seeds
Flax seeds are highly nutritious and a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, soluble fiber, lignans, and antioxidants. Their mucilaginous quality makes them nourishing and helps to soothe and heal the digestive tract. Flax seeds have been used to relieve constipation and may help lower total cholesterol. This Digestive Support Sprinkle features ground flax, which is easier to digest than whole seeds.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon aids in digesting desserts, smoothies, and meals that contain grains and cold dairy such as milk, yogurt, and ice cream. This energizing spice increases warmth and circulation and supports efficient digestion of fats and cold foods. It also helps counteract the congestion that can accompany dairy foods.
Ginger
Ginger stimulates digestion, supports the pancreas, dispels gas, and settles an upset stomach. It also gets rid of mucus congestion, so any time you have some mucus sneaking up on you, use a ginger sprinkle on your morning foods. If you are worried about diabetes, add ginger to your foods to enhance pancreatic function.
Cardamom
Cardamom is carminative, which means it increases the flow of oxygen and blood to the digestive tract. If you eat well but experience gas and bloating, you aren’t digesting well. Cardamom helps relieve gas and indigestion and assists you in converting food into something your body can use. It helps with irritable bowel problems and is restorative to the digestive tract.
Whenever I add the Digestive Support Sprinkle to my cooking, I think of the prevention and healing it is providing my family. Your thoughts can potentiate the actions of herbs. The next time you add spices to your food, visualize your family in your mind’s eye and imagine them healthy and happy.

What’s your thought on subbing fennel seeds (ground?) for the cardamom?
Thank you for all you share! Much appreciated~Dona
I love fennel seeds, that is a great idea
Hi Kami,
This is similar to the Morning Blend recipe from you a few years ago. I love it! I had some ladies over and we all made sprinkle bottles! I already use flax, seeds and ground. I use cinnamon everyday and really like cardamom. I’ll give this new recipe a try. Thank you.
Hi Kami, this is a fun idea except for the flax. From what I have read over the years, the flax will go rancid and should be kept frozen once ground, or used right away. I do appreciate all the info you share.
Yep, use it up
I’ve found the golden flax seed tastes so much better. I make little snack bars with equal parts ground flax and flaked unsweetened coconut, a bit of softened coconut oil and a splash of maple syrup. Press in pan, firm up in refrig.
Lovely! Will try it right away!
i use a lot of herbs , i believe in naturals ,
