Hi Kami, I live in TN close to knoxville, I always use the hanging method to dry my herbs. In the past I have left them too long and they lost flavor. Also I would be interested to know how large my bunches should be… Can they be too large?? should I dry them in smaller bunches? I would like to try the basket method this summer. When I have a large amount I will put them in food saver bags and process the air all out and store them in the freezer till I am ready to use them..… Read more »

The basket method only works in a hot and dry climate. Yep, if you leave them hanging too long, they become home decoration! The air and light just rob the constituents from the herbs. The bundles can be large if you are in a dry climate. The wetter the climate, the smaller the bundles need to be.
I have never used the food saver bag method. How do the herbs seem when you take them out?

Hi Kami, thanks for the great info. I dry Mallow to make into a powder that I add to powdered nettle and kale from my garden for my smoothies (thanks to your suggestion) Mints, parsley, lemon balm and lemon verbena to name a few. I have always used my dehydrator but will give the hanging method a go this summer.

Thanks for the video and all you do! I dry oregano,basil,mint,mullen,rosemary often. I usually use a hanging method or a hanging basket.
Kami, great video! I personally use a Presto dehydrator. I didn’t realize I should use the lowest setting when drying herbs, so thank you for that. What about using your car on a warm/hot sunny day to dehydrate them as well? I’ve not tried this one yet, but am planning to explore it this summer.The herb I dehydrate most is parsley, I use it in everything! I’ve heard it’s best to dehydrate garlic and onion outdoors due to the strong smell. Blessings!

I know, i love home-dried parsley, it is so much better than what you can buy!
I have never thought of drying outside, i actually love the smell of drying onion. I grew up in a town that had an onion drying plant and the whole town used to smell like onions in the fall….
I am not sure about the whole car thing, that is where you have consideration #2, you need to really see what the climate is like and if it would be too hot…
