Herbal infused oils are the most used natural remedy in my household. Lavender infused oil has many uses and benefits for the skin, stress, and more.
When I first started studying herbal medicine many long years ago, making herbal oils was the first thing that I fell in love with. I had always loved oils and lotions, but when I learned about what was in all the standard body oils, I was really shocked.
I couldn’t believe that thousands of chemicals were unregulated and allowed in our body care products. Even the stuff that said “natural” wasn’t so natural… I was so excited to learn that there was an easy alternative.
Have you ever been duped by the label? It says natural, the label itself even has that “natural” look, but then you get home and glance at the long list of ingredients that you can’t pronounce…
So, fast forward 30 years of making and using my own herbal oils… of all the natural remedies that I teach about, herbal oils are hands down the single most popular remedy that my students love to make and use.
Healing herbal oils are awesome and they aren’t just for when you are beginning to build your natural remedy tool kit; they are for anyone at any stage in their herbal and wellness journey.
Making Your Own Infused Oil vs. Essential Oil
There is a difference between infused oil and essential oil. I’m not talking about essential oils here, I am talking about handcrafted, made from scratch, inexpensively in your own kitchen, infused lavender oil and other healing herbal oils.
Making your own handcrafted herbal oils is also the single best way that I know of to really get inspired to use natural ingredients to moisturize your skin and avoid the harmful, hormone disrupting, skin damaging and toxic ingredients found in body oils and body care products that wreak havoc on your hormones and your health.
Have you ever been duped by the label? It says natural, the label itself even has that “natural” look, but then you get home and glance at the long list of ingredients that you can’t even pronounce…
No more detective work trying to figure out what’s in all the “natural” products or, even worse, what wasn’t listed on the label. (There are lots of chemicals in body oils and skin care products that legally don’t have to be listed.)
Making your own luscious, healing body oils is EASY!! There are many ways to make infused herbal oils and lots of different considerations, depending on which herb you use.
Lavender Infused Oil Uses and Benefits
You are going to love infused lavender oil, which has so many uses. The benefits of lavender oil include…
- It is anti-inflammatory, so it reduces itching and redness on the skin.
- It is antispasmodic, so it helps calm the muscles.
- It is vulnerary, which means that it increases the rate of skin healing. It is the perfect oil for healing minor cuts, scrapes and scratches.
- It also has a rejuvenating and uplifting effect on the mind, so it’s helpful for stress or anxiety. I use it in the bath a lot!
Lavender infused oil is also my favorite massage oil, especially for the feet.
It’s the massage therapist’s dream and the Mother’s Little Helper all wrapped up in one oil.

Hi Kami- I have been making my infused oils using your technique and the quality is amazing. I recently poured hot soup on my hand when I was working at a Soup Kitchen. I immediately wrapped my hand in ice but on the ride home it hurt so much, and I was trying to think of what I could do when it came to me….lavender oil!!! I gently rubbed it in and within 20 minutes I was pain free. I continued to apply the oil every day and I never had any more pain and my hand healed beautifully.
Hi, Kami—I just finished my oil based on your lesson, and it smells AMAZEBALLS. I think I didn’t use enough lavender my first maceration, so I did a second maceration and oh my god. Thank you so much for the lesson. I look forward to taking your herbal oils class sometime soon.
Hello, Kami!
I noticed you close to the jar cap when you leave it to stand, I have learned if to use fresh herbs to leave it open or cover with textile/paper so it can breathe. What is the reason you close it or does it differ depending on herb or cause you added alco?
Thank you for the video.
That technique really depends on the climate you live in. Humid climates, this doesn’t work for. There are a LOT of different nuances when it comes to making herbal oils, if you want to check out the most comprehensive source available you can click here: https://healingherbaloils.com/enroll-now
How long is the oil good for? Meaning shelf life after made?
If stored well, up to one year
I may have missed this. but is there a benefit to using fresh lavender verses dry? I’m praying my lavender yields a great crop this year, now that Ive something to do with it. Thank you so much!
Hi
You can use either fresh or dried lavender, they both work well. Great you will be making your lavender oil!
Since you are growing lavender, i would try both and see which one you like better. It is often personal preference as to which one you use.
Thank you for asking and clarifying. I’ve been wondering about what herbs can be used dry for folks like me who don’t yet have a fresh garden to harvest. St. John’s Wort specifically…I ordered some from a company and it was not red. An herbalist told me it was because it should never be infused dry, only fresh to be effective. Is this true?

Just wanna state, that if you have a worm composting bin, it isn’t the best idea to put oily objects in it, as it can coat the worms and cause them to die because they can’t breath through oil. Worms need to be moist, but moist with water, not oil.
Thanks for the tip Gypsy!
Hi Kami…really enjoyed your video and cannot wait to try this recipe with my own lavender! What I’m wondering is, I ‘d like to use this in the soap I make…I just dont know if I can do so because of the alcohol you have in the recipe…can this be made without the alcohol? Also, where do you store this? Refrigerator? Cabinet? How long is the shelf life? Thanks so much…You’re awesome 🙂
HI Colleen,
Sorry, i don’t make soap, so i don’t know the answer to that one! Yes, you can absolutely do it with out the alcohol. you can store it in a cool, dark cabinet or the fridge. SHelf life in general is one year as long as you don’t expose it to too much fluctuating temperature, heat, light, air or moisture. Glad you are making oils. ALso you can get on the list for the next time my Handcrafted Healing Herbal Oils Online Course opens up. https://healingherbaloils.com/online-course
Hi Kami. Loved the video and can’t wait to try this. I have studied aromatherapy and while I love essential oils, I’m finding I love herbal oils as much or more than essential oils.
Hi Kami. Loved the video. Can’t wait to try this. I studied aromatherapy. And while I love aromatherapy, I ‘m finding I love herbal oils as much or even more. Can I use other oils instead of olive oil?
HI Judy,
I know, i love the home made herbal oils…… Yes, you can use any oil you like, really. I like olive oil, because i can get organically grown and produced olive oils within 20 minutes of where i love, so i love using a local oil
I’m so excited about your web site .this my first comment .I Love this

Hi, can you use dried lavender flowers? If so do you prepare it the same way?

Hi Kami, Thank you so much for your lessons especially this one! I can’t wait to try it. What type of oil did you use? I am new to herbs and loving everything your teaching me!
