This rose petal honey makes a delicious tea to help prevent colds and soothe sore throats. I use it in cakes instead of sugar, and my son eats it on his French toast and muffins.
Rose petal honey also has benefits for skin! What you don’t eat for breakfast can be applied as a facial mask to revive your skin and give you a glowing complexion.
This recipe from my book, The Herbal Kitchen, features both rose petals and rose hips.
Rose Petal Benefits
Roses (Rosa spp.) aren’t just beautiful and fragrant, they also have many healing virtues and are a valuable medicine, food, and cosmetic ingredient.
Rose petals calm the nerves and soothe anxiety, restlessness, and nervousness. They help cool the body if you feel overheated, frustrated, or irritable.
Rose petals are also an effective topical anti-inflammatory and rose petal honey can soothe acne or irritated facial skin.
Rose Hips Benefits
Rose hips have a sweet, tart taste that adds a fizz of flavor to your rose petal honey.
They are one of the highest plant sources of vitamin C and have historically been used to treat scurvy. A powerhouse of vitamins and minerals, rose hips also have carminative properties that help the body absorb nutrients.
Their anti-inflammatory flavonoids help to prevent gastrointestinal inflammation that’s a side effect of eating processed and pesticide-contaminated foods.
All roses — red, pink, purple, yellow — are edible and medicinal. You can harvest your own petals and hips as long as they are organically grown and haven’t been sprayed with pesticides. Or, you can purchase dried rose petals and rose hips from Mountain Rose Herbs.

I tried making rose hip honey a while back. I just threw my cleaned out rose hips that were fresh picked that day into a bit of room temp honey and let it sit in a warm window for a month.
