Easy Healing Broth Starter Kits
This is my go-to recipe for when I need to nurture my body, or when I’m craving a delectable base for a soup.

- 1/4 cup sun-dried shiitake or maitake mushrooms
- 2 astragalus sticks
- 2 jujube dates
- 2" piece of kombu seaweed
- 2 tbsp dried orange peel (or 1 dehydrated citrus round)
- 2 star anise pods
- 2 bay leaves
To use: If you make your own veggie or bone stock, then simply pour these herbs into the water alongside the rest of your usual ingredients, simmer, then strain—following the same process you normally do.
If you prefer using a store-bought stock, then increase its healing benefits by combining it with these herbs in a stockpot. Simmer, covered, for 20-40 minutes before straining. You now have a super-charged botanical tonic to turn any meal medicinal! Use this excellent recipe for soups or stews or use the broth in place of water when cooking grains and beans.
