Ghee is a great delivery mechanism for the medicinal properties of herbs. It carries the healing constituents of the plant deeper into the body and nourishes all tissues. This turmeric medicinal ghee recipe helps the body to absorb many healing qualities of the herbs while adding a wealth of variation and rich flavor to whatever you’re eating.

As my husband, Michael, says, “Anything tastes good with ghee on it!”

Benefits of Turmeric Ghee

Many herbal constituents are increased in bioavailability when taken with a fat source like ghee. Especially with turmeric, there are a lot of fat-soluble constituents.

Turmeric contains curcumin, which has very potent anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is one of the culprits in degenerative diseases. Low grade inflammation of the body oxidizes your tissue. It overheats everything and you end up with asthma, allergies, heart disease, and brain problems.

Curcumin has a volatile oil that inhibits the synthesis of inflammatory prostaglandins. It has a blood-moving, circulatory stimulant quality that gets into the body. It helps with arthritis, tendonitis, sprains, strains, bumps, bruises, joint pain, joint swelling, tenderness, as well as stiffness.

It also helps reduce the inflammatory problems that we have in our gut that keep us from absorbing our food.

The best way to get the benefits of turmeric is in small amounts in your food, which brings us to this medicinal ghee recipe!

How to Use Medicinal Ghee

Wherever you use butter or fat, you can just put a teaspoon or tablespoon of medicinal ghee. Ghee is one of the best oils for sautéing. It has a high smoke point, which means it doesn’t burn. It’s a great beginning of a stir-fry, or added when you cook rice or quinoa. The amazing spices in this turmeric ghee recipe just turn any meal into an amazing flavor.

Ghee increases your digestive energy and enzymes. This turmeric ghee recipe will activate your digestive fire in the morning, even if you just put a little teaspoon into your breakfast some way. Try putting it in your breakfast foods like oatmeal or eggs.

Ghee is also very lubricating and nutritive for the nerves. If you’re cold, shaky, and nervous, add a little ghee to your tea or coffee in the morning. It’s very grounding, and nutritive, and nourishing for your nervous system.

Plus, ghee doesn’t go rancid. You can leave it out on the counter and it will last for a year.
