Ingredients in All-Purpose Herbed Salt

Salt

Use the highest-quality salt that you can find. Regular table salt is sodium chloride, which can trigger a litany of health problems. Whole salt is a healthful condiment that is teeming with minerals. Celtic salt, pink salt, gray salt, and Himalayan salt are some of the high-quality salts that you could consider using in your all-purpose herbed salt.

Coriander

Coriander has a synergizing effect on herbal salts and spice blends. The lemony taste of coriander synthesizes diverse flavors and complements many other herbs. Coriander also has an anti-inflammatory effect in the body and helps with all things digestive. This spice can relieve intestinal cramps and spasms, regulate an overheated digestive system, and soothe anxiety and nervous tension.

Turmeric

Turmeric enhances just about any savory dish from tuna and chicken salads to rice, pesto, eggs, beans, and sautéed vegetables. This immunity-enhancing spice is full of antioxidants, vitamins C and E, and it can also reduce inflammation that contributes to arthritis. Putting turmeric in your food can help you digest proteins and fats and absorb minerals more efficiently.

Cumin

Found in spice blends all over the world, cumin adds a flavorful spike to food.  Cumin is known for assuaging indigestion and heartburn (especially associated with eating spicy food) as well as soothing nausea and even protecting against pathogens in the digestive tract.

Fennel

Fennel seed is a staple in our house and we love its delicious flavor and aroma. This seed is one of the best herbal remedies for cramping, bloating, and nausea associated with poor digestion. Along with cumin and coriander, fennel stars in my three-ingredient belly well tea.

Mustard

Besides adding spike of flavor, mustard seed is a time-honored remedy for digestion. It’s also high in antioxidants like vitamins C and E, as well as omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce systemic inflammation. If you have a wet cough, mustard can help dissolve excess mucus.

Star Anise

Alive with flavor, star anise has hints of clove and licorice. As a warming and carminative spice, it helps relieve bloating, abdominal cramping, constipation, and indigestion. Star anise activates digestive enzymes, helping to you digest heavy foods like fats and meats.
